I was pretty busy yesterday and didn’t get a chance to post, so better late than never, right?!?!
Lisa Callahan is a hard working mom of two. Not only does she have 2 great kids, Leah (5) and Lucas (7) she works two jobs! I can’t think of a better lady in need of some pampering and playing beauty party!
Lisa was going to a charity event, so I offered to do her makeup in exchange for some before and after pictures! She never EVER wears makeup, so it was fun to glam her up a bit!
Let us know what you think of her transformation, as simple as it was!
This is my lovely friend Siana! Siana volunteered herself to be a part of our Makeover Mondays, not realizing the “before” picture was totally sans makeup! Let us know what you think of the end result!
Happy Monday, everyone! We know, it’s hard to get excited about another Monday, but we are super excited about our new Makeover Mondays! If you follow us on Facebook, you’ve probably already seen the post of Melinda’s fresh new look! If you haven’t “liked” us yet, ummmm, why not?!?!
It’s going to be hard to post every Monday, but every time we have the opportunity to “make over” or freshen up some lovely lady’s look, we will post it here on Monday. So check back in and see what magic we’ve worked! Without further delay, here’s our first look! (and keeping with the alliteration, her name just happens to be Melinda) so this is Melinda’s Monday Makeover!!
Melinda LOVES her new look!
Melinda’s hair was set using Rusk Wired and L’Oreal Infinium 3 Spray. Using a 3″ flat iron, I curled sections and pinned them to cool and set.
While her her was setting, I airbrushshed Melinda’s foundation using the Dinair airbrush compressor. Melinda’s lids were prepped with Rimmel’s “Hide the Blemish” conceler. A matte vanilla shade was applied on her brow bone, as well as lid. Using glo minerals bronzer in “sunlight”, I added depth to the crease of her lid. Maybelline’s “Eye Studio” Gel liner in black was applied to both top and bottom lids to make Melinda’s already gorgeous, big eyes pop even more! I finished her eyes with a black mascara and added Mary Kay’s “Sparkling Cider” to give her cheeks some color.
Once Melinda’s makeup was finished, I took the pin curls out of her hair, combed through with my fingers and had her shake her head to loosen the curls! We think the finished look was classy, fresh and sexy!

It’s not even NOVEMBER yet, but we’ve already had to turn on the heat in our house and use it in our cars– it’s gotten as low as 36* around Lexington in the past week. Yikes! Where’d my fall weather go to?! :( To top it off, my skin HATES winter. I’m a gal with dry skin anyway, so in the winter it’s even worse.
You may spend the next few months sloshing through winter wetness, but your skin probably never feels more desert-like than during the *sings* most wonderful time of the year.
Dryness generally peaks in the cold months and can leave a complexion red and tight, and winter-dryness can aggravate conditions like eczema. But first, let’s talk about why skin gets dry– what exactly causes it?
Hot showers and over-washing with harsh cleansers can strip the skin of it’s natural oils
Cold wind can cause chapped cheeks, lips and nose
Dry, hot air (from the heaters at home, in your car, at work, etc) can also sap the moisture from your skin
Of course, not drinking enough water can cause your skin to feel parched, as well
How to re-hydrate:
First, be sure to drink enough water (beautiful and healthy skin starts from the inside out!)
Switch to a creamy cleanser instead of a gel (they contain fewer drying agents)
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! If your face feels tight and dry even after moisturizing, you’ll need to switch to a “heavier” one (see the links before). You can also add a special moisturizing cream at night to help keep your face hydrated all day long.
Don’t forget your body! Switch from foamy soaps to creamy cleansers, and use a sugar scrub (DIY!) once or twice a week (sugar scrubs contain an oil as a base to lock in moisture while sloughing off the dead skin buildup). Moisturize immediately after your shower with lotion OR– my personal trick– baby oil!
Invest in a humidifier for the rooms in your home you spend the most time in and keep your skin (and nose and throat!) from getting dried out
Skin looking and feeling desperate? Here are some “911″ tips for extra dry skin:
Use a hydrating mask once or twice a week to keep your face soft and smooth
Try incorporating foods rich in essential fatty acids—such as walnuts, salmon, flaxseed, and avocados—into your daily diet. Consider taking a flaxseed-oil supplement, as research suggests that it may make your skin resilient to dryness

Our clients are always very shocked when they learn that we are sisters. The conversation typically goes “So, how long have you all known each other?”
Us: “Oh, about 24 years”
Client: *stunned silence*
Us: “We’re sisters”
Client: “OH! That’s awesome!”
So yes, we’re related (though you wouldn’t know it by looking at us)!
So what else makes us special? Why are we unique?
First, we were raised as hardworking, penny pinching women (as mentioned in the previous post) and therefore, we value the fact that not all brides/bridal parties can afford the prices set by some salons. We think that all budgets should be able to afford some pampering on the biggest day of their lives! That’s why we keep our prices low, for you!
Laura graduated from the University of Kentucky in December of 2012 with a Bachelor’s Degree in visual arts (painting and drawing)– so yes, your face is her canvas. Makeup was a hobby-turned-profession for her when art-related jobs ran scarce. One of the few things that is recession-proof in our economy is makeup, so Laura also decided to begin a career with Mary Kay, where she is now in the top 6% of the company! Laura will earn the use of her very first FREE career car as of December 1st, when she will also debut as an Independent Sales Director.
Natalie graduated from Cosmetology school in 2001 from the California Hair Design Academy. She is a licensed cosmetologist, so she can do it all– hair, waxing, nails, makeup, etc. In her career, she has worked with Vidal Sassoon trained stylists, Intercoiffuer stylist Peter Friedauer, and taken classes with top stylists and elite educators from Eufora International. She has also donated her time to the Ronald McDonald House Charities providing free haircuts for families staying there. Natalie has worked on countless weddings, photo shoots, runway shows, and more.
